I will be traveling to the Khumbu region of Nepal at the base of Mt. Everest to volunteer in a monastery near Phakding with my 17 year old daughter from August to September 2013. Girls are not allowed to spend the night in the monastery. We will be living with a host family at the bottom of the steep hill that leads up to the monastery. Each day we will hike 45 minutes up the hill to reach the young monks who will be waiting for their English teachers.
As part of the adventure, we will also be trekking to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar at over 18,000 feet. The trek will take approximately 2 weeks. We will travel with Sherpa porters who will carry the heavy load of gear that it will take to sustain us for the round trip adventure. We plan to take it very slow to enable us to acclimate ourselves to the thin air that at base camp will have 50% less oxygen than we have at sea level where we live.
It sounds so easy and fun I wish I could go but someone needed to stay at the beach.
Stay Safe !!!
Not going because of monsoon umbrella updraft fear…
Wish you a happy and safe journey.
